Syria
Russia, Turkey and Iran as well as the Syrian government and opposition delegations have agreed upon the details for a joint ceasefire monitoring group, thereby creating a consensual basis for a trilateral monitoring mechanism in Syria, a Kremlin source told TASS.
“The
universal approval of the statement concerning the Joint Task Force
for the ceasefire regime monitoring drafted by Russia, Turkey and
Iran has become the major result of the Astana meeting,” the
source said, adding that it created “a solid consensual basis”
for the work of the monitoring mechanism.
The source
added that the joint monitoring group would be also tasked with
separating the armed opposition from such terrorist groups as Islamic
State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) and Al-Nusra Front as well as with
building trust between the sides of the Syrian conflict and fostering
intra-Syrian dialog.
