Macron Campaign Emails

WikiLeaks

Today, Monday 31 July 2017, WikiLeaks publishes a searchable archive of 21,075 unique verified emails associated with the French presidential campaign of Emmanual Macron. The emails range from 20 March 2009 to 24 April 2017. The 21,075 emails have been individually forensically verified by WikiLeaks through its DKIM system.

The full archive of 71,848 emails with 26,506 attachments from 4,493 unique senders is provided for context.

WikiLeaks only certifies as verified the 21,075 emails marked with its green "DKIM verified" banner however based on statistical sampling the overwheling majority of the rest of the emails archive are authentic.

As the emails are often in chains and include portions of each other it is usually possible to confirm the integrity other emails in the chain as a result of the DKIM verified emails within it.

Guillaume Poupard, the head of French government cyber security agency ANSSI, told AP on June 1 this year that the method used to obtain the emails resembled the actions of an "isolated individual". Poupard stated that, contrary to media speculation, ANSSI could not attribute the attack to Russia and that France had previously been subject to hacking attacks designed to falsify attribution.

Here is why the Western clowns declared war on Venezuela while doing business with Saudi Arabia

If you wonder why the banking/corporate occupied media in the West remain silent against Saudi Arabia, one of the most brutal regimes at the same time they declared war on the democratically elected government of Venezuela, here are three good reasons, for a start, as described by Vijay Prashad to Paul Jay and the Real News:

There are perhaps three reasons, and there are probably many more, why the United States in its current class configuration, in other words, the kinds of people who run the United States, have fealty and have a very close tie with Saudi Arabia.

The first one is Saudi oil. It's important to mention because when the Saudis decide to pump more oil or reduce oil, they can manipulate oil prices and break the power of OPEC, that is the oil cartel, without actually breaking OPEC. By the fact of their volume, they can make real mayhem in the world. It's a worthwhile question to ask when commodity prices were high, when these commodity prices enabled the new powers from emerging.

Brazil, Russia, Venezuela, these powers were given a kind of lift in the 1990s and 2000s in particular, when oil prices and energy prices in general were high. When the Saudis started to pump enormous amounts of oil against their own economic interest, it created Syria's problems in these emerging powers and weakened them. Their use of the oil weapon against adversaries of the world order, let's call them, Venezuela, Brazil, Russia, etc., is a worthwhile reason to have a close tie with Saudi Arabia. It's well worth asking why the Saudis have maintained low oil prices when this has hurt their own economy. It has to be political, it's definitely not economic.

The second reason where there's a longterm connection between the kind of class that rules the west and the Saudis, is that for at least the last 40 years, the Saudis have recycled their petro dollars. That is, the profits that they earn from selling oil, they've recycled these into western banks.

They don't hold them in their own banks in large amounts. Of course, there's a sovereign fund, but they put most of it into western banks. It's the Saudi money that essentially has underwritten whatever growth has taken place in the global north. It's the Saudi money that's enabled the explosion of Wall Street, of derivatives, etc. It liquefies the financial world. This is a very important role that the Saudis play. They are leaders among the Gulf countries in so-called recycling their profits into the west. This therefore makes the west somewhat complicate in Saudi relations with the world.

The third reason is really quite important and often neglected. This is that it's not that the United States has an alliance with Saudi Arabia for oil and money alone. It has an alliance with Saudi Arabia because it relies on both Saudi Arabia and Israel for intelligence in the region, and to operate a decisively anti-left, anti-nationalist kind of agenda across the so-called Muslim lands.

In 1960s, Saudi Arabia created a group called the World Muslim League, which was set up essentially as an anti-communist block. They would produce literature against the left, against Arab nationalism, against third-world nationalism, and distribute it from Indonesia, up to Dagestan, then in the Soviet Union, and out to Algeria. The point of this was, Saudi Arabia was the sort of sphere of the counter-revolution in the third-world block and played a very important role. This old role comes to a head in 1977, '78, '79 when Saudi Arabia basically provided the intellectual work, alongside the CIA and Pakistani intelligence, for the creation of the Mujahideen in Afghanistan. This political role, and to some extent military role that the Saudis play is very important. The current class that dominates in Washington DC and in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, etc., they're interested in maintaining a kind of order in these lands at all costs.

If disorder is necessary, it's a kind of disorder that produces order for them. Continues to recycle petro dollars, ensures that there's no emergent power that can challenge western homogeneity. Saudi Arabia has been an absolutely invaluable ally for this. Whereas, somebody who's a liberal looks at this and says, "Well, why is the United States allied with Saudi Arabia? Look, they're beheading people." This is not how the ruling class sees it. The ruling class has a completely different understanding of Saudi Arabia and that is why this relationship for them is completely untouchable.

Now you see why the Western clowns, the banking/corporate puppets, have declared war on Venezuela, pretending that they care about human rights there, when at the same time they are doing business with the Saudis, the most brutal regime in the Middle East that continues to bombard Yemen, provoking a humanitarian disaster.

So, briefly, the real reason is oil, power and money, not human rights.

If you want to get an idea of how corrupted and degenerated the neoliberal West has become, 'measure' the hypocrisy. Currently, hypocrisy has reached historic levels. So, you know the rest ...

How corporate media gave us Trump

As described already:

The corporate media pundits were shocked when they realized that Donald Trump will be the next president of the United States. Yet, their media were promoting him during all the presidential race, "surprisingly", even more than their favorite, Hillary Clinton. The markets were going down for a moment, but then, nothing happened. It looked like a well-directed live show by the monstrous mechanisms of the establishment.

If you really want to find who was the real threat for the establishment, go back and review the whole story of the Democratic primaries. At the beginning, the media pundits were certain that Hillary would easily prevail by just walking to the finish line against Bernie Sanders. They were nearly making fun of him. But then, things got really serious. Bernie was building a mass movement outside their corrupted 'control room'.

Especially the American youth was pushing Bernie to the top, really fast, by attending massively his rallies and promoting him through social media. The internet independent media also contributed significantly on introducing Bernie Sanders to as many people as possible. You see, the system is indeed powerful, but not unbeatable. There are some things it can't control.

Then, you could witness the first signs of fear and embarrassment on pundits' voices and faces, when they were monitoring the rapid rise of Bernie against Hillary. And then, consider this: why they were constantly monitoring Bernie's and Hillary's strength against Trump's, with such an anxiety? They were doing this quite long before knowing the final result of the Democratic primaries. The answer is simple: because they wanted to see whether they should act seriously to put Bernie out of the game by all means.

When they saw with terror that Bernie was beating Trump by a far more significant percentage than Hillary, they knew that they had to get rid of him. It was much easier to do it in the primaries with the unfair and undemocratic system of superdelegates and the inside war from DNC. They wouldn't risk to see Bernie at the finals with Trump, where the whole world would watch closely. Indeed, WikiLeaks revealed that the DNC establishment had launched a dirty war against Bernie, but also that, some lobbyists wanted to get rid of him too.

'Coalition bombed schools & hospitals,' Raqqa refugees tell journalist in his last report for RT

In his last news story for RT Arabic, journalist Khaled Alkhateb talked to refugees from Raqqa who spoke about the death and destruction caused by coalition strikes. The 25-year-old was killed Sunday in a shelling offensive by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) in Syria.

"The coalition bombed schools and civilians. That’s why our children do not go to schools now. Many civilians were hurt, as it [coalition] hit both schools and hospitals," Abu Amdjad told Alkhateb, who worked with RT Arabic last week.

The man was among many other civilians who had been forced to flee Raqqa. In their home town, not a single government building was left unscathed from the coalition airstrikes, people told the reporter, saying that the US-led coalition bombed every building, claiming that IS terrorists were hiding there.

Alkhateb reported from the Syrian city of Hama.

A fourth grader told the journalist that the coalition forces bombed his school and "deprived us of the opportunity to study."

"There were refugees from Aleppo and other areas inside the school during the raids. Many of them died as a result of these airstrikes," the boy said.

Evo Morales denounces Russia sanctions, calls US a 'threat'

"The United States can be described as a threat to multilateralism, international law and the United Nations," Morales wrote on Twitter.

Bolivian President Evo Morales on Sunday slammed renewed U.S. sanctions against Russia, affirming that his country rejects them.

The Indigenous socialist leader announced his disapproval through his Twitter account. “The United States again seeks to impose unilateral sanctions against Russia. They contradict international law. Bolivia rejects them,” Morales tweeted. “With these types of sanctions, the U.S. can be described as a threat to multilateralism, international law and the United Nations,” he added in a second tweet.

The sanctions were implemented to punish Russia for so-called attempts to "destabilize" Ukraine and alleged "interference" in Syrian affairs. It includes a provision that allows Congress to stop any effort by U.S. President Donald Trump to ease existing sanctions on Russia.

The package has been described as the most severe since the end of the Cold War, with Russia being labeled a “hostile regime” along with Washington's traditional group of so-called “rogue states,” including Iran and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, or DPRK.

The White House reported that the president was "satisfied" with the draft and intends to sign it soon. With the sanctions in place, Trump’s plans to reconcile relations with Moscow will become increasingly difficult.

"We were waiting for quite a long time that maybe something would change for the better, were holding out hope that the situation would change somehow. But it appears that even if it changes someday it will not change soon," Russian President Vladimir Putin said Sunday.

The Russian president announced his intention to expel 755 U.S. diplomatic staff, seize two U.S. diplomatic properties and possibly impose more severe measures. "Because more than 1,000 workers - diplomats and support staff - were working and are still working in Russia, 755 must stop their activity in the Russian Federation," he said.

Moscow said on Friday that the United States has until Sept. 1 to reduce its diplomatic staff in Russia to 455 people, matching the number of Russian diplomats left in the United States, after Washington expelled 35 Russian officials in December.

The move will be accompanied by the seizure of two diplomatic properties, which must be vacated by August 1 – a move intended to mirror the seizure of two Russian diplomatic compounds in the United States by the administration of former President Barack Obama.

US bombers over Korean Peninsula in threat to DPRK

The United States flew two supersonic B-1B bombers over the Korean peninsula Sunday in the latest provocative move against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

In a response to the DPRK's successful test launch Friday of its Hwasong-14 intercontinental ballistic missile, the strategic bombers were accompanied by Japanese and South Korean jets, the Pentagon said.

The aggressive overflight came amid belligerent tweets from Washington, including U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley Sunday tweeting that the United States was "done talking" about the DPRK.

If the Yankees brandish the nuclear stick on this land again despite our repeated warnings, we will clearly teach them manners with the nuclear strategic force which we had shown them one by one,” said DPRK leader Kim Jong Un following the successful test launch, according to Pyongyang's Rodong Sinmun official news outlet.

Venezuela votes for National Constituent Assembly

The National Constituent Assembly is intended to further develop the country's democracy and help ease tensions with the opposition.

Hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans from across the country lined up long before dawn to cast their ballots on Sunday for the National Constituent Assembly.

Polling stations opened at 6 a.m. local time, following a bugle wake-up call and fireworks. Almost 20 million Venezuelans are registered to vote for 545 members of the National Constituent Assembly.

The head of the CNE, Tibisay Lucena, said Friday that the fingerprint-based voting process is automated and guaranteed that the rule of "one elector, one vote" will be in place. The rule prohibits voters from voting more than once.

Lucena said the election process for the National Constituent Assembly is audited by local and international entities, and that her organization will ensure and protect the Venezuelan people's right to vote, despite recent threats by the opposition to stage violent protests and prevent the election.

"We continue to implement security measures to guarantee Venezuelans the extra security we are accustomed to," Lucena said in an interview.

Alternative media is ignoring Venezuela’s regime change problem

Independent media outlets tend to pose alternative viewpoints that conflict with the narratives espoused by mainstream media. But when it comes to Venezuela, whose socialist government is in danger of being overthrown, they are parroting the mainstream line or ignoring the issue altogether.

by Whitney Webb

Part 2 - CIA-backed coups and opposition funding

For any student of U.S.-led regime change efforts, Venezuela’s current situation has the hallmarks of previous scenarios: lucrative resources, a history of U.S.-backed coup attempts, U.S.-led economic sabotage and a U.S.-funded political opposition.

Venezuela, which has the largest oil reserves in the world, found itself in the crosshairs of the US corporate empire as soon as its people rejected the U.S.-allied oligarchical government by electing socialist President Hugo Chávez in 1999. Chávez then began implementing policies that put the Venezuelan people ahead of American business interests that sought to exploit the nation’s resources.

Just a few years later, a U.S.-backed coup took place, one that involved many of the same figures who now lead the Venezuelan opposition. Chávez then ejected two major U.S. oil corporations, ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips, in 2007, further fomenting the ire of the United States government and corporate world. In the years that followed, numerous foiled coup attempts were uncovered in Venezuela and though Chávez resisted them all, he eventually succumbed to a sudden and rapidly advancing strain of cancer, with some going so far as claiming that the cancer was induced by his foreign enemies.

Ever since Nicolás Maduro, Chávez’s successor, won a tight election in the aftermath of Chávez’s death, he too has faced major problems. Similar to what transpired in other Latin American countries targeted for regime change, a scarcity of goods, food and medicine emerged in parts of the country. However, much of this was caused by major corporations – whose owners side with the opposition – hoarding those goods and refusing to put them on shelves.

The shortage was compounded by a drop in oil prices, which was brought about through artificial manipulation by the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. Though the price manipulation had the ultimate aim of hurting Russia, other oil-dependent economies, like Ecuador and Venezuela, have also suffered tremendously as a result.

Yet, the clearest sign of U.S. involvement in seeking regime change in Venezuela comes from its funding of the opposition. The U.S. government gave well over $100 million to the Venezuelan political opposition from 2002 to 2010, with the “progressive” Obama administration alone pledging $20 million to that cause.

The Obama administration also notably slapped Venezuela with sanctions, calling the nation a “threat to national security” despite no evidence being provided to support that claim. In addition, a current Senate bill, if passed, would give $10 million more to opposition parties. Many of the top figures in the Venezuelan opposition, including those lionized by Western media, have direct ties to the U.S. government.

For instance, according to a leaked recording from 2013, opposition leader Maria Corina Machado detailed how Ramon Guillermo Aveledo, the chairman of the opposition umbrella group Mesa de la Unidad Democrática, told the State Department that “the only way to resolve this (salir de esto) is by provoking and accentuating a crisis, a coup or a self-coup. Or a process of tightening the screws and domesticating to generate a system of total social control.

In addition, recent coup attempts in Venezuela were shown to be linked to the CIA and the DEA. More confirmation of current CIA involvement in Venezuela came earlier this week when the director of the CIA, Mike Pompeo, stated that the U.S. is working towards a “transition” in Venezuelan governance in coordination with the governments of Colombia and Mexico.

Were Venezuela to be replaced in this account with the name of any other country (save Cuba), it is likely that the very same alternative media sites that refuse to recognize that something is amiss in the mainstream narrative on Venezuela would be up in arms at the U.S.’ meddling in yet another attempt to force a democratically-elected government from power.

Greece: a (basket) case study in savage globalization

As Greeks look inward, they see a country that produces nothing of value and is inferior to the rest of the world - despite evidence to the contrary. The country has been mentally colonized, with outside powers convincing the Greeks that they can do no better.

by Michael Nevradakis

Part 3 - Mental colonization

In a 2013 interview which originally aired on Dialogos Radio, John Perkins, author of the bestselling book “Confessions of an Economic Hitman,” described how “economic hitmen” from institutions such as the IMF and the World Bank, as well as from the private sector, combine their economic takeover of an indebted nation, such as Greece, with a process of mental colonization:

…[T]hat’s part of the game: convince people that they’re wrong, that they’re inferior. The corporatocracy is incredibly good at that… It’s a policy of them versus us: We are good. We are right. We do everything right. You’re wrong. And in this case, all of this energy has been directed at the Greek people to say ‘you’re lazy; you didn’t do the right thing; you didn’t follow the right policies.

An observer will quickly determine that Perkins’ words ring true in the case of Greece. Complaining, which was practically a national pastime in the pre-crisis years, has reached stratospheric proportions. A general sense of collective guilt permeates Greek society, and it is common to hear discussions and statements about how “we elected these leaders, we were corrupt, we weren’t good citizens, therefore we deserve our current predicament and everything that is being done to us.” If you note a fatalistic undertone in these utterances, you’re not alone.

This collective guilt has been strongly encouraged by Greece’s political class, who ironically are responsible to a significant degree for Greece’s present-day crisis. Former longtime government minister Theodoros Pangalos, infamous for his salty mouth and previously described by best-selling author Greg Palast as a “fat bastard,” cynically stated at the onset of the crisis that “we ate it all together,” insinuating that Greek citizens benefited collectively from the corruption, nepotism, and cronyism that previous governments (including his own) habitually engaged in.

Following from this collective guilt is a new trend in Greece in which people insist on engaging in what they believe to be the sort of “self-criticism” practiced in other “civilized” countries. In reality, as will be demonstrated, it is sentiments of self-loathing and inferiority which are expressed instead of frank and constructive criticism of the nation’s ills. In turn, these sentiments foster feelings of apathy, hopelessness and paralysis on a national scale, acting as obstacles to any positive transformation.

The rise of the "megafarm": How British meat is made

Part 4 - Inside a poultry megafarm

Richard Williams invited the Bureau to Penhros Farm near the picturesque village of Kington, Herefordshire, where he has four sheds each housing 42,000 chickens. From this farm he produces nearly 1.3 million chickens a year for the giant food company Cargill, which supplies Tesco.

Inside, the sweet sickly odour is overpowering. You can’t see the floor for chickens. The sheds have some hay bales and wooden perches.

They’ve got enrichment,” Williams says. “Windows so they get daylight and fresh air… Is this cruel? I don’t think so”.

The chickens are bred to grow quickly, provide a good yield of meat, eat little feed and be disease-resistant. They are trucked in as chicks. Each batch of chickens is called a “crop” and he has about eight crops a year, cleaning the sheds in between each one.

The farm is slick - a computer-controlled environment optimized to produce safe, cheap meat. The birds are fed on pellets provided by Cargill, which contain soya, minerals and additives, mixed with locally grown wheat. They drink chlorinated water.

Williams says he hasn’t used a single antibiotic since the site was set up two years ago. Instead, he uses a product which changes the birds’ gut flora. “it’s like Yakult, lets the good bacteria grow and stops the bad bacteria growing.

The farm is environmentally friendly, says Williams. The sheds are heated by a biomass boiler fueled by recycled timber waste. The hatchery, feed mill, and factory, all owned by Cargill, are within 15 miles. “Tell me that isn’t a good carbon footprint.

Responding to complaints from neighbours, Williams says the farm keeps local people in work, like the truck drivers who deliver chicks, feed and shavings. His customer, Cargill, is one of the biggest employers in Herefordshire.

Ultimately he thinks this is the most efficient way to produce protein – and that the market shows consumers in their droves choose it over organic meat. “This is producing safe, cheap, available protein,” he says. “Is it any more complicated than that?"

The US empire threatens Latin American countries in its effort to overthrow Maduro

The US State Department makes some aggressive moves aimed at canceling the elections for the National Constituent Assembly in Venezuela, the last 24 hours.

Just days after the director of CIA revealed that he had contacts with officials in Mexico and Colombia to overthrow President Maduro, the US embassy in Caracas is removing the families of its diplomats and staff from the country.

At the same time, the US Ambassador in Nicaragua, Laura Dogu, has openly threatened the country's government with sanctions for its relations with Venezuela. The US diplomat stated that the US government and Congress know which countries support Venezuela, and added that Nicaragua has not so many friends in Washington to be able to support Caracas.

Washington has been threatening Nicaragua for years with a financial embargo - a tool that now uses for its plans to overthrow the Venezuelan president.

For his part, the president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, warned that Washington's possible intervention in Venezuela could lead to armed conflicts and blamed the Secretary General of the Organization of American States for interfering in Venezuela's domestic political life.

The US imposed financial sanctions on 13 officials in Venezuela, including the Ombudsman, Tarek William Saab. In the past, Saab had accused members of the opposition of threatening to set fire to his home and burn down members of his family.

Congo violence leaves 850,000 children displaced

Children in central Democratic Republic of Congo are bearing the brunt of violence between the army and a local militia which has uprooted at least 1.4 million people over the past year, the UN children's agency (UNICEF) said on Friday.

Six in 10 of those forced to flee their homes in the conflict-ravaged Kasai region - about 850,000 - are children, leaving them prey to attack, detention, sexual violence, and recruitment by militia fighters, according to the UN agency.

More than 3,300 people have been killed in Kasai since the start of an insurrection in August by the Kamuina Nsapu militia, which wants the withdrawal of military forces from the area.

Kasai is the scene of a growing humanitarian disaster in a nation where violence has spiraled since President Joseph Kabila refused to step down when his mandate ended in December.

Part 1

Even though the independent media community in the West is diverse, there are often some common themes that unite alternative media outlets from different sides of the political spectrum. Common among these unifying forces is a criticism of the U.S. imperial war machine and U.S. efforts – both covert and direct – to subject governments throughout the world to regime change, often for simply conflicting with the U.S.’ “national interest.”

This has held true for independent media coverage of U.S.-led regime change efforts in countries like Iraq, Libya, Ukraine and Syria, where the reporting of most alternative media outlets has brought them into direct conflict with mainstream media, government-approved narratives. However, for several conservative-leaning independent media outlets, there is one glaring exception: Venezuela.

While some more left-leaning independent media sites have acknowledged the U.S.’ role in the destabilization of oil-rich Venezuela and its multi-million dollar funding of the political opposition, some on the more conservative side – such as Zero Hedge, InfoWars and We Are Change – have often ignored this outright or only mentioned it as a mere afterthought.

Instead they have chosen to embrace the mainstream media narrative supportive of U.S.-backed regime change in Venezuela, painting the current government of Venezuela as a dictatorship and the sole party responsible for the country’s current crisis, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Part 2 - Modern-day Greece: Fatalism, defeatism and hopelessness

The extent of the demoralization of the Greek people is plainly evident through everyday conversations and encounters. Ordinary Greeks, upon learning that I came to the country to perform academic research, react in surprise and confusion, wondering why anyone would be crazy enough to come to Greece to stay for an extended period. Years ago, soon after the onset of the crisis, two different taxi drivers, upon realizing that I was from overseas, questioned why I chose to come to Greece. “Why are you here? Don’t you see what is happening?” I was asked. “Leave now, as quickly as you can!

Another driver interrogated me about job conditions in the United States, clearly because he had emigration on his mind. When I would mention that I was in Greece to perform academic research, but more importantly, because it was my homeland, people looked at me, quite simply, as if I were crazy.

On other occasions, upon learning that I am an autodidact in the Greek language, Greeks openly wondered why I chose to learn such an “insignificant” language as Greek, instead of a language which offered “potential,” such as German.

I could not escape this pessimism, even back in the United States in faraway Texas. At a farewell party for two Greek-American students who were graduating from my university, one of the students expressed interest in teaching English in Greece and living there for six months or a year. A student from Greece who was part of the conversation, however, warned her against such folly. “Don’t do it, you won’t like it,” he exclaimed. “Greece is only good for summer vacations.

As far back as the “good old days” of the 1990s, when as a child I was privileged enough to travel to Greece with my family during the summer, I often used to hear mutterings about how much better things would be if Germans ruled Greece instead of the Greeks. Today, eight years into the worst economic crisis a developed country has endured in modern history and at a time when Greece is essentially governed by Brussels and Berlin, one still hears such sentiments expressed with alarming frequency.

Interviews, both academic and journalistic, that I have conducted dating back several years have revealed an overriding sentiment of hopelessness, a belief that the economic crisis that had befallen the country would not be overcome for many, many years. And while the crisis has indeed dragged on, one wonders to what extent such sentiments are self-fulfilling, as a result of the inertia and paralysis which result from the belief that nothing can or will change.

The rise of the "megafarm": How British meat is made

Part 3 - Advanced technology

Currently there has been little demand to stop the growth of intensive farms and move to organic farming, said Richard Griffiths, chief executive of the British Poultry Council. He said organic farms would take up much more space “If we tried to grow a billion birds a year, that would be a lot of land It’s a balancing act and it’s demand driven.

Intensive farms maintain high environmental, hygiene and welfare standards when they are run properly these are high health and welfare farms,” he argued. "The husbandry of the birds is the crucial element here. I think people think of hens roaming around a farm but that image is no longer the case – that’s not how chicken is farmed any more.

Dr Zoë Davies, chief executive of the National Pig Association (NPA), the industry body for pig farmers, said farmers had to operate intensive systems to compete with cheap European imports.

Intensive farms have to meet many different regulations to get an Environment Agency permit, she said, and the biggest farms have excellent resources to maintain welfare standards, such as specialist vets on site.

She reiterated that there was a lack of consumer demand for free-range meat.

People like the idea of a family farm,” she said. “They don’t know what an actual farm looks like."

A spokesperson for major poultry company Faccenda said the scale of big farms allowed them to afford to invest in green technologies.

On large modern farms it’s easier to create and maintain the right environment, meaning that our animals are raised somewhere that is warm, dry and clean, and the risk of air borne diseases, such as avian influenza, is greatly reduced,” she said.

Through investing in fewer, larger facilities we make the best use of scarce agricultural land and reduce the environmental impact of our farms. We have for example biomass energy on all of our farms.

Macron leads the effort of the Western neocolonialists to make a deal on looting Libya's resources

Here what's one of the primary priorities of the new golden boy of the neoliberal establishment. Emmanuel Macron met with Libya's two main rival leaders, presumably to achieve a piece deal so that the Western vultures could start looting the rich Libyan resources in an environment of 'peace and stability'.

From Guardian:

Libya’s two main rival leaders have agreed to call a ceasefire and hold elections early next year after a meeting in Paris hosted by the French president, Emmanuel Macron.

Macron said Libya’s UN-backed prime minister, Fayez al-Sarraj, and Khalifa Haftar – the military strongman whose forces control large tracts of land in the east of the country – had displayed “historic courage” at the talks outside Paris on Tuesday.

The cause of peace has made great progress today,” declared Macron at the end of the talks. [...] The communique says the two leaders accept that only a political solution can end the crisis, and calls for all militia to be brought under the reins of a national army under political control. “We commit to a ceasefire and to refrain from any use of armed force for any purpose that does not strictly constitute counter-terrorism”, the document says.

[...]

A rival administration based in Libya’s remote east – with which Haftar is allied – has refused to recognise Sarraj’s government, and blocked the House of Representatives from being quorate. On the face of it, the Paris deal offers more to Haftar than Serraj.

Most western capitals have been reluctant to give Haftar any political role save as defence minister in a Sarraj-led government, but the territorial gains of his forces have made that an increasingly untenable position. Haftar’s eastern army has won a string of victories that has left it controlling two thirds of the country, including key oil ports and Benghazi, the country’s eastern capital. The general has already declared his intention to capture Tripoli by the end of the year.

[...]

Haftar is backed by Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and the bulk of the French military, but has shown little commitment to power sharing and has been accused of human rights violations in capturing Benghazi.

According to some information, “critics regard Sarraj as a politician imposed by foreign powers”.

If you wonder how the man that took part in the coup that brought Gaddafi to power in 1969, still enjoys some Western support against the UN-backed Fayez al-Sarraj, just take a look at Wikipedia and the mystery will be instantly solved:

In 1987, he [Khalifa Haftar] became a prisoner of war during the war against Chad after being lulled into a trap and captured, then a major embarrassment for Gaddafi and represented a major blow to Gaddafi's ambitions in Chad. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Gaddafi. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the Langley, Virginia, United States, gaining U.S. citizenship. Haftar lived comfortably in Virginia, relatively close to CIA headquarters, from the early 1990s until 2011. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death.

[...]

By 1988, Haftar had aligned himself with the National Front for the Salvation of Libya, a U.S. supported opposition group. When U.S. financial aid to Zaire was not forthcoming, Zaire expelled the remainder to Kenya. Kenya only provided temporary residence, and the American CIA negotiated a settlement around 1990, enabling Heftar and 300 of his soldiers to move to the United States under the U.S. refugee programme.

In March 1996, Haftar took part in a failed uprising against Gaddafi in the mountains of eastern Libya, before returning to the U.S.

Haftar moved to suburban Virginia outside Washington, D.C., living in Falls Church until 2007. He then moved to Vienna, Virginia.

No doubt that Haftar is CIA's agent in Libya and therefore, no one can touch him. It is obvious that the French have been compromised with the other Western neocolonialists, although as appeared in Clinton emails brought to light by WikiLeaks, the French wanted exclusively the rich Libyan resources and the Americans were dissatisfied with this situation. Finally, both the Americans and the British joined the race and the Italians also made an attempt to take a piece.

It appears that the Italians "invested" on Libyan PMs since the time of Ali Zeidan (or Zidan).

In the letter above concerning Italy, Paolo Scaroni, CEO of the Italian oil firm ENI, was extremely anxious to develop a new, special relationship with the post-revolutionary Libyan government and intended to gain an advantage on other Western firms looking to do business in the country. Scaroni had the full backing of the Italian government in this matter, under Mario Monti, the puppet technocrat who replaced the democratically elected, Silvio Berlusconi, through an ECB silent coup.

Early this year, Reuters reported that “Prime Minister Fayez al-Seraj flew to Rome from Brussels on the eve of an EU summit in Malta to sign a memorandum of understanding with Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni. The agreement aims mainly at providing training and equipment needed to better control Libya's vast, desert borders and bolster its limited coast guard fleet.

Obviously, the Western vultures are trying to take the best positions right before the beginning of Libya's final looting, in order to take the best pieces possible.

Corbyn told Venezuelan President Maduro that EU is ‘bad for the poor’, which is 100% true

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, a lifelong Euroskeptic, reportedly told Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro that EU institutions are bad for the poor.

The Daily Mail – which calls the democratically-elected Maduro Corbyn’s “dictator pal” – says the Labour leader made the comments in 2014, a year before he was elected party chief.

The paper claims that a recording of a meeting between the two reveals Corbyn telling the Latin American leader that European Central Bank (ECB) policies are “detrimental to the poor of Britain and other countries” and that the EU is a barrier to “building socialism and the fight against capitalism.

His political mentor, the late socialist Labour MP Tony Benn, was very much of the same stripe when it came to the EU.

Corbyn reportedly referred to Benn during the interview, telling Maduro he had been “a leader in the struggle against the economic policies of the European Bank and others, which were detrimental to the poor of Britain and other countries.

During his life we discussed many times the problems for building socialism and the fight against capitalism,” Corbyn said.

Questions remain about how much of a revelation the comments really are.

Corbyn was a well-known left-wing Euroskeptic for decades before he became party leader in 2015.

However, he campaigned for Remain during the EU Referendum according to the democratic decision of his party, one of a series of concessions he made to try to unite Labour during his tumultuous period in charge.

Labour sources told the Mail on Wednesday that the party leader was criticizing “the suffering inflicted on southern European countries, especially Greece, through austerity.

More than 100 people are estimated to have lost their lives in violent clashes between supporters of Maduro’s government and opposition activists over the past four months.

The opposition has ramped up its protest activity in the run-up to the election of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC), scheduled for July 30, announcing a week of protests and launching a two-day nationwide strike that kicked off on Wednesday.

Maduro has blamed the US for trying to deliberately destabilize the country.
