Trump is only a reserve of the establishment

globinfo freexchange Although there is a general perception that billionaire Donald Trump is actually anti-establishment, in reality, he is probably a reserve of the establishment. In many cases the dominant system is using its power (e.g. media propaganda) to distort even simple logic. The first fundamental question one should ask is: how is it possible a billionaire, who made his fortune inside this system, to be anti-establishment? From the Intercept's article Neoconservatives declare war on Donald Trump : Donald Trump’s runaway success in the GOP primaries so far is setting off alarm bells among neoconservatives who are worried he will not pursue the same bellicose foreign policy that has dominated Republican thinking for decades. [...] Even when Trump echoes certain elements of neoconservative orthodoxy – he repeatedly and emphatically calls for strengthening the military – he does so in a unique

Clinton manipulates language of ‘intersectionality’ to preserve support from minority voters

The presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton has been a master class in how to divorce economic issues from issues of race and gender by pushing the language of “intersectionality,” which enables the political class to head off threats to their power and protect the status quo. The results in the South Carolina Democratic primary are a clear example of this reality. Clinton has suggested, “ If we broke up the big banks tomorrow…would that end racism? Would that end sexism? ” Her supporters have been led to believe this is a reasonable perspective to hold, and so, as Roqayah Chamseddine has argued, the answer to Sanders’ “economic populism” has been relatively easy—”divert attention to other issues” and mislead the “public in terms of how anti-capitalism converges with race, gender, and class.” This week on the “Unauthorized Disclosure” weekly podcast we are joined by Vivek Chibber, a sociology professor at New York University and the author of “Postcolonial Th

California courts demand total access to email and social media accounts

As the FBI and Apple fight a media war over whether the federal government can force the computer company to hack an iPhone, in California a new privacy law is raising questions over how deeply government should be allowed to peer into a convicted criminal’s digital life. That new law, the California Electronic Communications Privacy Act (CalECPA), requires law enforcement to obtain a warrant before searching a person’s cellphone, laptop, or any digital storage device. At issue is whether the law covers people on probation, parole, and other forms of supervised release who’ve agreed to what’s known as a “Fourth waiver,” a condition that allows law enforcement to search their person and property at any time. CalECPA took effect on January 1, 2016. Three days later, San Diego County prosecutors and Superior Court judges began asking defendants who were eligible for probation to sign a form giving “specific consent” to county probation officers “and/or a law enfo

Roughly 5,000 refugees hosted in Piraeus port building

Some 5,000 third country nationals -- refugees and migrants -- have taken temporary shelter inside four covered gateways at the port of Piraeus on Monday, after arriving from islands of the eastern Aegean last night. Officials at the Piraeus Port Authority told ANA-MPA tht one gate has been closed by authorities for decontamination, so that it can be used to house people who will arrive on Tuesday. They also said the exact numbers of people housed in the premises change often, as some families choose to leave shortly after arriving to find the Athens train station and head north. “ The crucial part is to be able to keep those people here for a few hours, one or two days, because the port of Piraeus cannot be transformed into a temporary accommodation camp. It’s a transit area and it can only operate as such, ” Shipping Minister Thodoris Drotsas said earlier in the day. Source: http://www.amna.gr/english/article/13024/Roughly-5-000-refugees-hosted-in
